Your site is an absolute gift, thank you. I’ve recently come across some small pieces of Mevlana Rumi’s works and by extension Sufism. Where would you recommend looking to find out more about about both for someone entirely new to the subjects and not very clever, please?
As a practicing Buddhist it’s wonderful to see your commitment to inter faith dialogue 😀
Many Thanks,
David
Welcome David
It’s lovely to meet you, as it were. Thanks for dropping by.
There are many excellent introductory books on Sufism. Here are some of my personal favourites:
I really loved Anne Marie Schimmel’s Mystical Dimensions of Islam. It’s an excellent overview, and a personal favourite of mine. William Chittick’s The Sufi Path of Love: the Spiritual Teachings of Rumi is another excellent work – especially helpful in drawing out Rumi’s thought.
Kabir Helminski, my own teacher, has a number of helpful books on specifically Mevlevi practice (being the order founded by Rumi).
Living Presence: The Sufi Path to Mindfulness and the Essential Self is excellent.
The Knowing Heart: A Sufi Path of Transformation is an excellent introduction to Rumi’s way
My own first encounter with Mevlana came through this small, yet beautiful anthology: The Rumi Collection: An Anthology of Translations of Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi. It holds a special place in my heart as being the book that opened the way for me.
I have a further reading page which you might find helpful as well:
As we grow older, and as we travel along our own paths, we can’t help but see more and more connections and similarities with the journeys of others. As such, I have great respect for Buddhist thought, and would love to learn more.

At any rate, it’s lovely to connect.
May this moment be blessed!
