Bathed in Light

Peace, one and all…

‪The Messenger of Allah (as), to a man who said, ‘I would love to be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection [bathed] in light’, said, ‘Do not oppress anyone and you will be resurrected on the Day of Judgement [bathed] in light.’

(Kanz al-`Ummal, no. 44154)

Oppression is darkness, and brings nothing but darkness in its wake. Justice is light, and because justice is most fundamentally love in action, its light is transformative. Darkness fractures the heart and disturbs our ability to see clearly. If we oppress others, we bring that oppression onto our own hearts, and fear and distrust become our lot. If we hold fast to the Divine and work deeds of wholeness, our eyes open and it is as if we suddenly live in a different world.
