Today is the last day of Ramadan.  With the setting of the sun this evening, the festival of Eid al-Fitr (‘the Festival of Fast-breaking’) will begin, as God wills.  Here is a beautiful poem to mark the occasion. May all who pass by be blessed.  Eid mubarak! Kullu `aam wa antum bi khayrBajram serif mubarek olsun!

Oh my friends, let us cry
The fasting moon has gone again
Let us lament, let us grieve
The fasting moon has gone again

A light from God she came
Her light filled the skies
Taking the sincere by the hand
The fasting moon has gone again.

The ways of the unjust and their hands,
She just severed them
Struck down their cities
The fasting moon has gone again.

To the soul she gave purity
To the pact she was faithful
For the pain she gave healing
The fasting moon has gone again.

She gives savour to fasting prayers
Causes lamps to shine forth
Gives glory to mosques
The fasting moon has gone again.

She is the influx from God
She is manifest to lovers
Filling their hearts with light
The fasting moon has gone again.

She fills Uftade with joy
Awakens the remembrance of believers
Brings freedom from worries
The fasting moon has gone again.
