If The Light Were Truly Gone

Peace, one and all…

We live in interesting times, it seems.  Patterns are shifting and changing, and the world moves towards a great turning point.  As we draw nearer to this moment of decision, we all feel the strain.  I know that I do.  But, as I travelled to work this morning, a calming truth emerged from deep within.

If the light were truly gone, then the end of all things would already have come.  If the light had truly gone, then no one on earth would speak of love and truth and mercy; no one would strive to swim against the tides of our times.  No, the light does not fade, nor is it ever diminished.  It is we who turn away and we who close our own eyes.

Allah says in the Quran:

‘Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves’ (13:11)

There is hope in these words.  There is life in these words.  A change in our attitudes, orientations and priorities can only come from within.  We are called in these days of ours to look inside ourselves with Truth, bi al-Haqq, that a way forward might be shown therein.

May every eye and every heart open.  May a new dawn emerge.  Ya Nur!

Ma’as salama,
Abdur Rahman

Truly God gives us all ample opportunities to change- That is where hope resides in His gracious nature.

A change in our attitudes, orientations and priorities can only come from Him blessing us.

Yes, we are called in these days of ours to look inside ourselves with His Truth, His holy words.

  2. Dear Abdur Rahman,

Thank for yourwords of hope. I come from a Muslim culture here in Capetown that is steeped in the veneration of the Awliyya – the dearly departed saints, of which there are many who lie buried in Capetown. The essence of this belief is that they – much like our pious relatives who have passed on – are very much still around us; prodding us into good actions when need be (such as mysteriously waking us up for fajr, for e.g.); protecting us against harm where possible and most importantly, adding their “Amen” to our sincere prayers and facilitating the acceptance of these prayers. They – i.e. all the departed prophets, saints and pious people through the ages – hover around us in the realm of the lower Ghaib, like the stars in the night sky.In this realm, they remain engaged in devotion since they too await Qiyaamat and final judgement and release. They provide sparks of inspiration, revelation, clarity and even guidance to those who in their lifetime are themselves luminous with the Nur of faith, understanding and sincerity.

In grappling with this debate of the “light having gone”, I feel it is these lights – of the departed prophets, saints and pious people – that has gone out. Not the eternal light of Ar-Rahman-Ar-Rahim. That was the light they were merely reflecting to us through the ages, and keeping us warm in a sense. But my feeling – and I do having a feeling of their absence quite suddenly – is that they have moved on to another height, away from us. Their mission is in fact complete, the Internet and printing press have seen to that. All the knowledge and wisdom of the prophets, saints, priests, shamans, mediums, seers, buddhas and whoever else through the ages have been disclosed and is available for perusal now in some form or the other. It happened very fast, but its happened. They have done what they had to do, and they are no longer needed in the lower ghaib to assist or inspire those who earnestly or even unknowingly wanted to record and pass on the relevant knowledge. It is these lights I feel, that have gone (not extinguished),that have been led now to a higher plane; out of our third-eye vision.

What does it mean? Firstly, what we have now, is more than what any age has had before. Everything after this will simply be commentary. The presence of the Awliyya and other pious souls in the lower ghaib also cushioned many of us somewhat against the machinations and arrows of deception from those jinn who are predisposed to deceive and turn us away from God. We need to prepare for more and more disquiet, doubts and confusion in OUR OWN minds. Very likely too, a dirth of inspiration for illuminating knowledge. But most importantly, I feel the lower ghaib has been “depopulated” in a sense to allow for the direct descent of the eternal light in this realm. The Bible speaks of a time when “people will start to prophesy”. That is when the eternal light will enter this realm. A new age then.

In the meantime, that which we have is meant to guide us aright, and we must hold fast to that and not loose faith in it.

May Allah forgive me and have mercy me. May Allah have mercy on us all.

  3. Dear Raa,

al-salamu alaikum. Welcome to my online home. Thank you for your insightful post. I sense that we are faced with a moment of real decision. Will we move out of our collective adolesence into adulthood, or will we stay trapped in childish ways? Perhaps the sudden vanishing you speak of refers to this….we are now being charged with growing up.

    May Allah help us all.

It is lovely to meet you.

    Ma’as salama,

    Abdur Rahman

  5. It’s wonderful how Abdur highlights the word “truth” as being of vital importance.

In John 1:17 in the holy Bible we read, “For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.”

Jesus Himself testified in the first person voice in John 14:6
… “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

    Revelation 1:5
And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

May God continue to bless us abundantly as we seek diligently to study His teachings!
