For they are your Two Companions

Peace, one and all…

‘You should not neglect your time or use it haphazardly; on the contrary, you should bring yourself to account, structure your litanies and other practices during each day and night, and assign to each period a fixed and specific function.  This is how to bring out the spiritual blessing (baraka) in each period.  But, if you leave yourself adrift, aimlessly wandering as cattle do, not knowing how to occupy yourself at every moment, your time will be lost.  It is nothing other than your life, and your life is the capital that you make use of to reach perpetual felicity in the proximity of God the Exalted.  Each of your breaths is irreplaceable and, once gone, can never be retrieved.  Do not be like the deceived fools who are joyous because each day their wealth increases while their life shortens.  What good is an increase in wealth when life grows ever shorter?  Therefore, be joyous only for an increase in knowledge or in good works, for they are your two companions who will accompany you in your grave when your family, wealth, children, and friends stay behind’
(Imam al-Ghazali, Bidayat al-Hidaya)

  1. The preciousness of time

Precious readers of Abdur’s blog, if you are currently offering God very little of your time and talents you need to be reminded that God’s precious gift of time to you belongs to Him.

Additionally your talents have been given to you by God, so that you have the precious opportunity of using them wisely to glorify God’s pure name.

Precious readers of Abdur’s blog, if you are currently watching too many silly time-wasting programmes on television where actors “live” prayerless lives, you need to be reminded that you have fallen into a pit of superficiality – in order to get out of that debilitating pit, you’ll need to recognize that you are dishonouring God’s name down there.

Citizens of the world, if you are pounding about, day after day, on lawless legs in a pit of disobedience, relying totally on your own efforts, you need to know that Your Creator, holy God, loves you and always has done and has your best interests at heart.

You need to know that it is in your best interests to dig deeper spiritually and decide to take God’s name more seriously.

You can demonstrate your new desire to honour God by deciding to treat His gift of life as a treasure. Say yes to some regular study and you’ll soon be aware that God wants you to say no to fritting your time away on spiritually harmful television programmes.

Start today – it is a great place to start. Mighty God may your majestical holy, compassionate, loving name always be highly exalted in our heart.

  2. God’s will and desire is that we look expectantly to Him for physical healing and spiritual nourishment; for it is His delight to compassionately nourish and sustain us.

Students eager to learn, be encouraged for God has a sublime love for all His creation.

Truly God is marvellously compassionate toward to all age groups and He has got an incredibly soft spot for children.

Do you know that it is possible to have an intimate relationship with a delightful, compassionate, Teacher and Friend who is Your holy Creator?

Go for it and before long you’ll be dancing, with an expression of delight on your face, with the author of compassion.

Do you know that God has always had a glorious plan to introduce you to Himself? He has already taken the initiative and shown you glimpses of His life-ennobling love.

In order to become more compassionate it is more imperative than ever for parents to desire to fight their addiction to watching heinously evil television programmes that mock rather than glorify God.

Yes, it is more imperative than ever that parents repent and resolve, often for the first time. to teach their children from clean books.

Start to see yourself as a child in need of the Teacher of ultimate truth who is King of heaven and earth and your wife will long to dance with you hand-in-hand too. May God continue to bless you and your wife mightily.
