The Humble Mustard Seed

Peace, one and all…

‘O my son!” (said Luqman), “If there be (but) the weight of a mustard-seed and it were (hidden) in a rock, or (any where) in the heavens or on earth, Allah will bring it forth: for Allah understands the finest mysteries, (and) is well-acquainted (with them)’ (al-Quran Surah Luqman 31:16, trans. A. Y. Ali)

  1. Hallo Abdur, that is a very beautiful image that you have introduced here. Like mustard seeds our faith starts off very tiny, yet under God’s tender, compassionate and gracious care it can blossom and consistently truly glorify God.

Truly provided we have faith as a grain of mustard seed that God is magnifying, we can say to mountains of difficuly in our life, remove hence to yonder place; and they shall remove!

Mountains are huge, so faith that works through love will need to be greatly multiplied by God; so that we the blessed
recipients of it can apply it to overcome difficulties or challenges in our life- that to our physical eyes seem insurmountable.

Around about four years ago I had hardly ever drawn anything on a design programme.

Notwithstanding this fact, I did sense that God had planted a mustard seed in my
heart to glorify Him through designing pictures in the German language.

I remember saying a resounding yes to the challenge, inspite of my glaring lack of confidence in this specialized area.

After four years of continuous application I can now daily praise God for miraculously multiplying my confidence and creative abilites and rejoice in the visible fruit of His patient, prudent teaching and my honest endeavors!

Abdur, may God plant a mustard seed in your heart in 2010; so that you can bring increased joy into the world.

To God be the glory eternally.

  2. I think I put too much mustard on my food before, after a long break, plunging into writing in English.

Sorry Abdur, I meant to say- may God plant his inspiring word in your heart and help it generously and graciously grow in 2010; so that you can bring increased joy into the world!

  3. Recently I have started to sense this mustard seed (like the princess and the pea – just to confuse metaphors!). I have gone so long feeling bereft of any growth, but now I start to hope and it is just like discovering that, yes, you do in fact still have a seed in your pocket after being convinced you had nothing.
    Blessed Be, Abdur.
    Tattooed Witch 🙂

  4. Peace TW,

The last year has been a time of great pruning and weeding for me, so I can relate to what you say. Yes….the seed is still there, somewhere in my pocket (along with all the old bus tickets, fluff, keys and assorted bits and bobs)! For me, the greatest discovery of late is that I am myself a seed! 🙂

    Blessed be

PS – it is great too see you blogging once again. Are you plsnning on attending the Ludlow bookfair this year?

  5. Shalom Abdur,
Apparently the Ludlow conference as such has stopped (the organiser didn’t want to run it any more), but the Pagan Federation has picked up the baton and are running a similar event in Ludlow. I will definitely be going along to that.

Are you interested in coming too? Here’s a link to the basic info: Unfortunately I can’t find any information yet on what the people listed will be talking about, but the books alone are usually worth seeing (and ahem … buying! Doh. Time to start saving).

    Brightest Blessings
