Abu Hurairah and Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (God be pleased with them both) relate that the Messenger of God (alaihi al-salatu wa al-salam) said:

‘Never is a believer stricken with a discomfort, an illness, an anxiety,a grief or mental worry or even the pricking of a thorn but Allah will expiate his sin on account of it [i.e. his patience]’ (Riyadh al-Saliheen, no. 10)

  1. Reminds me a bit of a line from The Holy Quran – “Allah (swt) does not place a burden upon a soul beyond what it can bear” (Al-Baqarah 2:286).

I’ve always lingered on this line in my heart and mind particularly during hard times. Personally, it gives me strength and makes me think that perhaps i can handle far more than i am aware of. We never know until we are tested.

    Thanks for sharing!

  2. Salams Kaosar,

I hope you are well, insha Allah. I never did get round to composing a poem with you for the Court of Lions! Allah! This has been a busy few months.

At any rate, I see what you mean. This passage does connect with the beautiful and profound line from Surah al-Baqarah. We probably are stronger than we realise – and sometimes we only realise once we have been tested, once we have been through a demanding and stressful situation.

Ya Allah! Al hamdu lillahi ala kulli hal.
