In the Middle of My Heart

Peace, one and all…

In the Middle of My Heart

In the middle of my heart,
there is a shrine,
wherein waits my Beloved.

In the middle of my soul,
there is a space,
made only for love.

In the middle of my self,
there is a sacred place,
in which I no longer intrude.

O Beloved,
I will meet You there,
in the middle of my heart.

  1. Peace Goldenferi,

Yes. It is a broad and green garden, in which we all may meet our loved one.

One of my favourite Qawwali songs (the sufi musical tradition of India and Pakistan) by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is Yaad-e-Nabi Gulshan Mehka. The central refrain is ‘Remembrance of the Prophet seems like a beautiful rose-garden to me’

Thank you for your kind thoughts.

    Blessed be

  2. I particularly love the verse “In the middle of my self there is a sacred place in which I no longer intrude”.

This says to me that we are able to leave our egos behind, even if it is only for a few moments at a time, when we enter that sacred place and rest there.

It has resonances in the Enneagram system of personality (which I teach), which itself probably has elements of Sufi teaching in its historical background.

  3. Peace Tess,

Thank you for your kind thoughts. Yes. I was indeed trying to describe leaving my ego behind, for just a short moment.

I know very little of the Enneagram system. I’d value hearing more about it.
