Peace, one and all…

and I have become

  2. Peace Towanda,

Thank you for your kind comment. God bless you, now and always.

No, the artwork’s not mine. I collected it from the internet. You remind me, though, of the need to give image credits.

  3. Salaams Salma,

Al hamdu lillah, I’m fine. I hope you’re well too, by God’s grace.

For me, though I am a beginner, the great thing about Sufi poetry is that it’s so multi-layered – there’s always something more to take away from it.

I take a number of things from this poem. Firstly, God and human (in this case Hafiz) are in a relationship. Secondly, as Hafiz has grown, he has realised that everything he sees turns him back to God. Indeed, wherever he turns he sees God’s face. It’s as if the world was just God and Hafiz. Thirdly, this relationship is one of closeness, joy and laughter.

Ya Allah! Would that I could be so blessed.

  4. Salaams S,

No, I don’t have this text in Persian I’m afraid. I got it from Faith House Manhattan (link above). Although, they’re citing it from a translated work as I recall.

  5. We heard this poem read at a Sufi meeting in West London last night and I loved it, so this morning I Googled “Hafiz, two fat people” so I could find the words. And yours was the first entry that came up. Very fitting, I thought! Peace.

  6. Peace Tess,

It’s a really wonderful little ditty, and like all such things becomes more profound each time I read it.

Where did you go in West London? I always love finding out about new places to go…
