The Table of the Heart

Cultivate the gentleness of a gardener,
who each day caresses what she has planted
with clean water
and open sunlight.

Do not be afraid
to uproot the weeds of your soul,
for a garden needs work
if it is to become a place of beauty.

Ibn al-Sabil, care is needed
in this planting and harvesting of life:
only the flower of honest work
can be set upon the Beloved’s table of the heart.
