These Unexpected Offerings

March 6, 2007

Peace, one and all…

I’ve just posted a poem over at The Corner Reloaded, entitled Unexpected Offerings.  If you’ve got a few spare moments, why not pop over there and check it out?

In any case, here’s a sneak preview.  Enjoy and may God make it beneficial.

Unexpected Offerings

Hidden in plain sight
the tree stands in silent splendour,
a mute sacrifice to the truth of beauty.

Unexpected offerings of colour
decorate the weary facades
of these weary buildings,
like some ancient king
offered the chance of new life.

Even amidst the grey solitude
of this dull street,
birds still nest
and rise to face the sun
each morning.

When you reflect on things, my friend
the birds have found the answer.

Spend too long looking
down towards your feet,
and you risk losing the memory

of the way the sunlight caresses your eyes,
or how the fragrant breeze of a spring morning
brushes against your face,

like a lover’s knowing kiss
in the afterglow of passion.

Reflections on Reverence

I’ve come across a couple of interesting reflections on reverence recently and I wanted to share them with you all.  The first post on this topic can be found over at Serenity’s Tide.  There is much that is very similar to the Islamic tradition here, with its emphasis on adab (‘courtesy’) and akhlaq (‘manners’ or ‘politeness’).  The ever worthy Mark Walters then follows this up with some profound reflections of his own over at Eternal Awareness.

Check them out and may Allah bless all who pass by.

Ma’as salama,
Abdur Rahman
