Peace, one and all…
This poem came to me as I was listening to my usual dhikrs and ilahis on the train to work this morning. The aim of the poem is to ask this simple question: what would it be like if the fire in my heart could be shared?
‘Within my heart there lies a song,
Of which I know nought of words or melody.
Sometimes the song of my heart is a fragile brook,
Its water flowing through secret caves.
And, when God’s loving embrace urges me to song,
It rises as a raging flood, sweeping away all before it.
At these times, my heart yearns to reach out
And encourage others to sing by my side,
So that together our singing might become a symphony
In praise of Hu.
But I have no power to open hearts,
Or to read secrets
And the song of my heart would sound lifeless upon my withered tongue.
But for my Beloved all things are possible,
And quickening my parched tongue is for Him an easy task’.
Ma’as salama,
